Big Daddy's Cajun Blues Party @ GNTP

Straight from the swamps and bayous of the mid-north coast comes Big Daddy’s Cajun Blues Party – featuring Steel City Su: a celebration of south-west Louisiana Cajun, Zydeco and Texas Blues.

The outfit is fronted by Big Daddy Roy on Cajun accordion (aka the “Louisiana Loudmouth”), his double-necked guitar, and vocals; Steel City Su on fiddle, keys and vocals; and supported by a full band line up with Len Biglin on guitar, Bill Mundie on bass, and Vincent O’Malley on skins and triangle.

Wollombi Wild Ride


Date: Saturday, 06 September 2014
Time: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Location: Wollombi Tavern, Wollombi NSW

An adventurous mountain bike ride through some of the most picturesque countryside in Wollombi in the Lower Hunter Valley. Race is in 3 categories, 15 km, 30km and 60km.

The race compound and registration area will be in the grounds of the Wollombi Tavern. From there riders will marshal for their starts out the back gate and into the park on Yango Creek Rd. Just before the race riders will marshal onto the road and start heading south along Yango Creek Rd. All courses start and end here, with the finish being a right hand turn into the grounds of the Tavern to the finish arch. The Wild 15 course is out and back and the Wild 30 & 60 are both looped courses with a small amount of doubling up on the way back. There have been some great off road additions to the course via use of private property along last years course. Please note there are no road closures on the main tracks and normal road rules apply when using the roadways. We do not expect much traffic and a traffic management plan will be in place.

Art Exhibition - 'Lightscape'

Graham Williams will be holding a one man exhibition from the 6th to the 21st September. This year Graham has continued to experiment with colour and light and the Australian landscape. Coffee and cake will be served at 10.30am Saturdays and Sundays 6th/7th & 20th/21st September.

Historic Ghost Tour

Come and experience Wollombi after dark. Wollombi is filled with historic sites rich in convict relics and early settler stories dating back to the 1800?s, almost every building has a ghost story waiting to be told. Come along and join Renata Daniels (from Newcastle Ghost Tours) well known medium/psychic and our local historians as they walk back in time through Wollombi Village. Enjoy stories of the PAST with a cuppa and a scrumptious treat at the Brook.

Joining this tour you will be donating to Wollombi’s Historical Society and the local churches.

Historic Ghost Tour

Sugar is a Hunter Valley based funk | soul | reggae | blues band playing some seriously sweet tunes. A collaboration of Pana Damo Watson, Alex Lee Yates, James Purmodh and Adrian Buckley, this band is guaranteed to get you dancing.

Sugar’s members have played with some mighty fine musicians including Afro Moses, Bakoomba, Cass Eager and Zoe K, so we’re a little excited to be welcoming them to GNTP.

Aboriginal Overnight Cultural Camp

Location: Wollombi Cultural Centre, Wollombi NSW

Join us on a 2 or  day camp at some of our culturally significant sites.

Our camps are ideal for people looking to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of traditional NSW Aboriginal lore and culture.

Join in on cultural activities including:

  • Guided visits to culturally significant sites including twilight stories;
  • Participate in traditional dance, song and ochre workshops and join in on our sunset Corroboree;
  • Learn traditional campfire cooking methods and share in a feast cooked on the coals;
  • Bush walking and knowledge sharing about bush foods and medicines;

2 day camps are priced at $300 per person. This includes all camping equipment, meals and cultural activities.

Broke Village Fair

Make your way to the beautiful village of Broke on Sunday, 14th September 2014 for a great family day out at the annual Broke Village Fair. McNamara Park will come alive with hundreds of vintage, veteran and classic cars, trucks and motorcycles on display for all to see.

The kids will love the amusement rides and farmyard petting zoo while mum and dad can enjoy the festival atmosphere. Over 50 market stalls, wine tasting, children’s activities and rides, live music, whip cracking and bush poetry throughout day.

Free mine tours to Bulga Open Cut mine will operate between 10am and 1pm for the whole family.

Entry is by gold coin donation. The Broke Village Fair assists in raising funds for local community groups including the Broke Rural Fire Service, Broke Hall and churches. See you at the Fair!

With no site fee for stallholders, the Laguna Markets at the Great Northern Trading Post are an opportunity for locals, providores & artisans to showcase their wares in a gorgeous country market. If you are interested in becoming a part of the market, please call GNTP on 4998 8244.

Our permanent resident Bare NaturesKin will be open as well. We offer fabulous bacon & egg rolls and our always great coffee for brekky, as you meander through the stalls. Hang around for live music in the afternoon.

Laguna Market Day

9th Emerging Artist Awards

Wollombi Valley Arts Council (WVAC) invites entries from all emerging artists of any age in any medium! The WVAC is a non-profit volunteer community group that manages the Wollombi Cultural Centre for the artistic and cultural needs of the community. The WVAC’s role is to foster the arts.

It is a condition of this agreement that the exhibitor will pay the $10 entry fee, thereby, also becoming a member of the WVAC for the current year. Thanks to the generous support from our sponsors the awards for 2014 will total $4,000.

OPENING NIGHT: Friday 26 September from 6.30pm. All welcome for nibblies and drinks.

EXHIBITION: Open weekends 10am – 4pm, from 26 September – 12 October.

But before that we have our Friday night epic Launch Party at the Wollombi Tavern & then the Recovery Sunday. Both these events are FREE & open to those going to the festival or not, but do come to the festival!

The Friday night sees 2 great bands with 1 set from A Girl’s A Gun & 2 sets from the grooviest Afro-fusion band around Bakoomba. Not only do we have a great night of music but we will also have a very special & quirky welcome ceremony – so bring a drum & join in!

Wollombi Music Festival Recovery Session

October 2014

Wollombi Labour Day Market


Date: Monday, 06 October 2014

Location: Wollombi Saleyards, Wollombi NSW

Visit historic Wollombi on the holiday Monday of each long weekend (Easter, June and October) and on Australia Day for this great market of over 100 stalls, including local produce and crafts, plants, clothes, tools, bric-a-brac and much more.

This market attracts thousands of visitors to the beautiful countryside of the Wollombi Valley in the lower Hunter. Wollombi is just over an hour from the outskirts of Sydney and Newcastle and 30 minutes from Cessnock.

As each market is run by volunteers from a different local community group, they benefit a cross section of this small rural community, including the Wollombi Bush Fire Brigade and Wollombi Public School P&C.
