Art Exhibition - "Reality Art"

Well known Wollombi local John Niven Richards has been a popular exhibitor at Laguna Art Show and elsewhere for many years. His first show at The Old Fire Shed Gallery will showcase original paintings, poster art and high quality prints, with an emphasis on landscape subjects.

OPENING: Saturday 29 August at 10am – all welcome.
EXHIBITION: Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Art Exhibition - "Reality Art"

Wollombi Wild Ride


Date: Saturday, 05 September 2015
Time: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Location: Wollombi Tavern, Wollombi NSW

An adventurous mountain bike ride through some of the most picturesque countryside in Wollombi in the Lower Hunter Valley. Race is in 3 categories, 13.5 km, 30km and 58km.

The race compound and registration area will be in the grounds of the Wollombi Tavern. From there riders will marshal for their starts out the back gate and into the park on Yango Creek Rd. All courses start and end here, with the finish being a right hand turn into the grounds of the Tavern to the finish arch. The Wild Short course is out and back and the Wild Mid and Long are both looped courses. Please note there are no road closures on the main tracks and normal road rules apply when using the roadways. We do not expect much traffic and a traffic management plan will be in place. The surface is mostly fire trails and gravel roads which have various degrees of condition, from ‘rough as guts’ to quite smooth.

Broke Village Fair and Vintage Car Display


Date: Sunday, 13 September 2015
Time: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Location: Broke village, Broke NSW

Join us at the Broke Village Fair on Sunday, 14th September from 9am – 3pm at McNamara Park, Broke. The famous Vintage Car Display brings all sorts of vintage and classic cars, motorbikes, trucks & tractors and an amazing array of old but still functioning farm machinery. The kids will love the amusement rides, laser tag and the petting zoo while mum and dad can enjoy the festival atmosphere. Over 50 market stalls, children’s activities and rides, live music, whip cracking, bush poetry, Tug-o-War, rocker car racing and so much more throughout day. Free mine tours to Bulga Open Cut mine will operate between 10am and 1pm for the whole family.

Broke Village Fair and Vintage Car Display

Wollombi Tavern and Lochinvar Music Club present a fun day of FREE music and markets. Funky Junk Flea Markets from 10am, Talent quest starts 11am – walk up artists welcome, raffles and give aways, evening jam session, FREE camping at Wollombi Tavern. All proceeds to Mackenzies Farm Aid Appeal.

Stonehurst Long Table Lunch

The lovely Laguna Markets are held on the third Sunday of the month in the carpark area of GNTP from 10am. If it’s blowy and cold and wet, we’ll be tucked up by the crackling fire undercover.

With no site fee for stallholders, the Laguna Markets at the Great Northern Trading Post are an opportunity for local providores and artisans to showcase their wares in a gorgeous country market.

Your trash may be someone else’s treasure, so we welcome new stallholders every month.

Tim the Barber will be here for haircuts or to trim your manly beard in the top shed. Our newest member of the GNTP family Heritage 33 will be open with her beautiful range of antiques and old wares. Kerrie will be on hand with her tarot cards. Our stallholders offer fresh produce, vintage clothes, bric a brac, beautiful jewellery and homemade wares from a variety of local artisans. We’ll be cooking our fabulous bacon and egg rolls and always great coffee for brekky, as you meander through the stalls.

Emerging Artists Awards

Location: Wollombi Cultural Centre, Wollombi NSW

Wollombi Valley Arts Council (WVAC) invites entries from all emerging artists of any age in any medium! The WVAC is a non-profit volunteer community group that manages the Wollombi Cultural Centre for the artistic and cultural needs of the community. The WVAC’s role is to foster the arts.

It is a condition of this agreement that the exhibitor will pay the $10 entry fee, thereby, also becoming a member of the WVAC for the current year. Thanks to the generous support from our sponsors; Wollombi Valley Arts Council, Cessnock City Council and Somewhere Unique (Youth Awards) the awards for 2015 will total $4,000.

OPENING NIGHT: Friday 25 September from 6.30pm. All welcome for nibblies and drinks.

EXHIBITION: Open weekends 10am – 4pm, from 26 September – 11 October.

Wollombi Markets

Location: Wollombi Saleyards, Wollombi NSW

Visit historic Wollombi on the holiday Monday of each long weekend (Easter, June and October) and on Australia Day for this great market of over 100 stalls, including local produce and crafts, plants, clothes, tools, bric-a-brac and much more.

This market attracts thousands of visitors to the beautiful countryside of the Wollombi Valley in the lower Hunter. Wollombi is just over an hour from the outskirts of Sydney and Newcastle and 30 minutes from Cessnock.

As each market is run by volunteers from a different local community group, they benefit a cross section of this small rural community, including the Wollombi Bush Fire Brigade and Wollombi Public School P&C.

Exhibition open daily from 10am – 6pm Featuring over 100 outdoor sculptures and exclusive boutique wines, join us and enjoy the hospitality and natural beauty of these exceptional venues and the breadth of talent from our juried selection of artworks along the Wollombi Valley Wine Trail.

Over 500 artists have exhibited with us over the years including some highly distinguished practitioners as well as experimental and emerging artists. We encourage and celebrate diversity in practice while maintaining an ethical and environmentally sustainable exhibition and events giving artists the opportunity to share their work with the general public, and giving art and wine lovers the chance to experience something truly unique.

A visit to Sculpture in the Vineyards offers a chance to explore beyond the scenic Great North Road and delve into hidden corners of this picturesque valley. The Wollombi region is rich in history, ranging from Aboriginal rock engravings to the convict built Great North Road and historic buildings of the Wollombi village. Sculpture in the Vineyards is a not for profit association governed by a board and produced by a committee of dedicated art professionals.
