Masterfully constructed, Jim Cartwright’s timeless comedy about a misfit crowd of eccentric characters all played by two of Australia’s premiere acting talents is a sure-fire hit!

For anyone who has ever owned a pub, worked in a pub…or been in a pub, TWO is about people and the strength of the human spirit – stronger than anything on offer behind the bar.

Directed by Ensemble Theatre Artistic Director Mark Kilmurry, Jim Cartwright’s timeless comedy TWO introduces fourteen colourful characters, all skilfully played by veterans of stage and screen Brian Meegan (Rake, Sea Patrol, Water Rats) and Kate Raison (A Country Practice, E-Street).

Set in a country pub, the lives of our middle-aged landlord and landlady couple have literally become their work. They met as children outside the pub, were engaged in the pub, had their wedding reception in the pub, and eventually bought the pub. Over the years they have served every type, a misfit crowd of eccentric and hilarious individuals. There’s Moth, who loves Maud (and every other woman) fervently; Mrs Iger, with her passion for quiet, strong men; possessive Roy, jealous of anybody who looks at Lesley (even the darts players); Alice and Fred and their Elvis obsession; and the publicans themselves – a married couple with an unspoken secret. They all have their own story to tell.

As these various members of the local community pull up a stool and let us into their lives it becomes clear that TWO is essentially about relationships, and as they bicker their way through the night, none on display is more fascinating than that of our landlord and landlady.

“With this assortment of characters, we see life’s challenges, we feel frustration, boredom, love, longing and even death”, says director Mark Kilmurry. “Yet instead of a numbing grim play we get a celebration in comedy of what it is to be human.”

By turns funny, heart-warming and poignant, TWO promises to be a lively night at the local in the company of two of our most accomplished and versatile actors. You won’t want to miss this smash hit comedy.

“Director Mark Kilmurry has chosen well in casting real life husband and wife Brian Meegan and Kate Raison who give something of an acting master class.” – Sydney Arts Guide
