For 20 years the Melbourne International Comedy Festival has been touring far and wide, bringing giggles, guffaws and good times to Australia and further afield. Whether you’re in Katherine, Quirindi, Kyneton or Cairns, you can still experience Australia’s largest and best-loved comedy festival in your own backyard. We’ve got over 80 destinations on the laugh-laden schedule, and a line-up of artists to tickle anyone’s funny bone. The Roadshow really has something for everyone!

DAVE CALLAN (MC)

Dave Callan is the Irish born Melbourne based comic best known for his roles on Rove Live and Triple J.

Over the years he’s popped up on Good News Week, Hey Hey its Saturday, Spicks and Specks, The Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Good Morning Australia with Bert Newton. Dave was part of the cast of Good Game from 2011 to 2016 and hosted Saturday nights on Triple J from 2005 to 2010.Dave regularly performs corporate hosting and comedy in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia and is a regular on the festival circuit. He had performed shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Perth Fringeworld, Woodford Folk Festival, Edinburgh Fringe and Montreal. Dave has hosted the touring Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow since 2001 to places as exotic as Mumbai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and of course Rutherglen.

With over 20 years in the business in front of every type of crowd imaginable Dave Callan is a performer who can get the job done and take the night to a new level – just what you want from your MC!

CAL WILSON

Cal Wilson came across the Tasman in 2003 and has gone on to become one of our most popular comedians, a perennial favourite on television shows such as Spicks and Specks, Good News Week, Thank God You’re Here, and more recently Have You Been Paying Attention? and Hughesy We Have a Problem. Her stand up shows are as engaging as they are hilarious, often bringing the audiences stories to life alongside her own.

Cal earned herself a seat in one of Australia’s most sought-after writers’ rooms at the ABC for The Weekly with Charlie Pickering for its first two seasons. In 2016, she landed one of her dream jobs as an ensemble cast member in Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia alongside some of the country’s brightest improvisers.Since 2015 when it started in Australia, Cal has been the host of the worldwide smash-hit storytelling format The Moth’s monthly live shows in Melbourne.

In 2018, Cal toured her solo show Hindsight, which drew sold out crowds to comedy festivals around Australia, appeared on the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Oxfam Gala and was invited to the Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival where she recorded a Netflix Original Comedy Special for release in 2019.

SEAN CHOOLBURRA

After winning the NSW RAW Comedy Final in 2002, Sean headlined the Dreaming Festival 2005-2008, and has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Scottish Storytelling Festival and the Adelaide Fringe Festival. He’s appeared on the NRL Footy Show, Thank God You’re Here and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, and has hosted and recently performed at Deadly Funny in Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth.

DANIEL CONNELL

Daniel could easily be described as the ideal Aussie comedian; affable,loveable and hilarious. His observational, dry, often unanticipated comedy has seen him take to stages all over the country.

Daniel first launched himself into the comedy world in the 2009 emerging comedian competition ‘Green Faces’, winning the Canberra heat and placing third in the national final.

Driven to further his career in comedy, Daniel moved to Melbourne in 2010 and quickly established himself in the local scene. In 2011 he performed in ‘The Comedy Zone’ at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, a line up show of up and coming Australian comedians hand picked by the festival.

Since then Daniel has performed a brand new hour of stand-up at 8 consecutive Melbourne International Comedy Festivals. At the 2017 MICF Daniel made his debut on the Oxfam Gala (ABC) and was also selected to go on tour around Australia and Asia with the MICF Roadshow.

BLAKE FREEMAN

Blake Freeman is one of Australia’s brightest new comedians, making a name for himself with his own brand of energetic and disarmingly honest comedy. Through his youthful energy and charismatic delivery Blake weaves charming stories, making the intensely personal relatable.

In 2018 he was hand-picked for Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s prestigious Comedy Zone and has written for television, toured nationally and hosted his own radio show.At this year’s festival he won the Best Newcomer Award, awarded to a solo performer or group of performers doing their first Festival show – Blake is definitely a star on the rise!
