About Wendy Black
Wendy Black is a sculptor and teacher based in the Wollombi Valley, whose work centres on the art of portraiture and the human form. Her sculptural journey began at Exeter Art School in the UK, before deepening through life-modelling studies with the renowned Tom Bass in Sydney in the mid-90s. Wendy works across a broad range of media from traditional to the unexpected, including copper, chicken wire, and natural fibres, always with a focus on capturing the essential character of her subject rather than surface appearance. She has been teaching at the Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School since 2005 and has led workshops at the Sydney Art School and the Cootamundra Art Centre.
Closely connected to her local arts community, Wendy has curated the Wollombi Valley Sculpture Festival/Sculpture in the Vineyards since 2019.
