The Wollombi General Store is a much-loved part of village life, serving locals and travellers since the 1850s. It’s the sort of place where locals pop in to collect their post, pick up daily essentials and stay for a good chat, while visitors quickly discover it as their go-to stop in the village.
Breakfast is served from 7 am, with lunch and takeaway available throughout the day, alongside Peaberry coffee and freshly made Carnival gelato. The store is now licensed and offers a thoughtful selection of wine, beer and spirits to enjoy with your meal. There’s indoor seating inside the original heritage building, plus outdoor tables perfect for watching Wollombi life unfold.
You’ll also find antiques to browse and shelves stocked with local products.
The team are happy to host special events too, just speak to them directly.
Still full of heritage, still full of heart, and very much at the centre of village life.

A huge milestone worth celebrating – 2026
2026 marks 175 years of the Wollombi General Store trading as a general store, with 1851 recognised locally as the year the building began operating as a store. We’ll be marking the milestone with a proper celebration later in the year.
The building itself predates the store. It was originally the Harp of Erin Hotel, an early inn that served travellers moving through the valley in the 1800s. The old hotel name can still be seen on the building today, a small reminder of that earlier chapter of village life.
In those early store days, the business worked very differently from a modern shop. A hawker’s van regularly travelled around the district delivering supplies to properties across the valley. Groceries, drapery and household goods went out, and produce came back – eggs, poultry, hides and possum skins. Staples like flour and sugar were bought by the bag, tea by the chest. The store was less a convenience stop and more a supply hub for the whole district.
Over the coming months, we’ll share more pieces of the story and celebrate this milestone here in Wollombi. Follow us on
