Our Story

Wollombi Kitchen is an exciting collaboration at the gateway to the Hunter Valley between husband & wife teams, Aussie TV & radio journalists Chris Bath & Jim Wilson, & hospitality management, retail & merchandising gurus Karen & Simon Harris. They four have vastly different life & work experience, but share the same raison d’être – a commitment to community, endeavour, ethics & excellence – that’s seen all of them enjoy successful careers & businesses. The work lives of Simon & Karen Harris first intersected with Chris Bath in the late 1990’s in London when she travelled the world as a reporter for the Seven Network’s “Witness” program. Simon was the Hotel Manager of the uber trendy Metropolitan in Mayfair, Karen was Guest Relations Manager & Chris was a regular guest on work trips to London. They forged a friendship that lasts to this day.

The plan to open Wollombi Kitchen began with a conversation over a bottle of local vino. Both couples realised that the timing was just right. Chris wanted to bring her passion for localism alive, born during years of working in regional media, and also share her organically grown produce. Jim was busting to get his hands on the wine list and show the world some excellent local wine. Simon & Karen wanted to show off their new home and use their considerable retail & hospitality talents to create a showcase for what the Wollombi Valley has to offer.

The four are committed to making Wollombi Kitchen a destination for the Valley – a restaurant that illuminates the work of local producers & valley artisans, showcasing local food & local talent, an easy drive or day trip from Sydney or Newcastle.
