Two projects worth $1.07 million have been approved for construction by Cessnock City Council un- der the 2015-16 Australian Government Black Spot Programme.
$460,000 has been approved for road widening and realignment, pavement resurfacing and clearing of roadside hazards on Great North Road at Lemmings Corner, Laguna.
While Duffie Drive, Aberdare received $610,000 for road widening and realignment works from Mel- bourne Street to Maitland Road.
The funding has been welcomed by Council, who applied for Black Spot funding for a total of five projects.
“These two roads are known problem spots in the area, so it’s pleasing to see they will soon be made safer with the help of this funding,” said Council’s Director of Works and Infrastructure Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr.
Works are expected to be completed in the 2015-16 financial year.
