Born about 10 miles from the Tavern in 1929, Mel Jurd purchased the Wollombi Wine Saloon in 1957. Legend has it that Mel, in his efforts to keep costs down and revenues up would save all the leftovers from the night before and pour them into a single container. This becames Dr Jurds Jungle Juice, which has remained the trademark for the establishment ever since. Experience the infamous Jungle Juice – or take one home – at the Wollombi Tavern.

Wollombi Wines is a family owned and operated Boutique Vineyard and Cellar Door, 1km from the historic village of Wollombi.

From vines planted in the early 90s, Finch Lane produces small quantities of premium table wines which capture the essence of the Wollombi valley. We grow our grapes without pesticides and chemical fertilisers, limit yields, minimise irrigation, and during winemaking, add no chemical enhancements or concentrates, preserving the natural yeasts to produce wine of uncompromising honesty and purity. The grapes for our wine are 100% estate grown at Laguna and the wine is made by the 2012 Winemaker of the Year, Nick Patterson.
